Privacy Policy

Last updated 3 August 2026. In short: your screenshots are processed in your own browser and are not uploaded to Screencheck servers.

How your screenshots are handled

Screencheck is a browser-based tool. When you add a screenshot, the file is read directly from your device by your browser. Image processing — comparison, pixel inspection, colour sampling and export — happens locally using your browser's own canvas and storage APIs.

Your screenshot files are not uploaded to Screencheck servers. We do not receive them, store them, or have any means of accessing them. No account is required and no email address is collected.

The website itself is, of course, served to you from a web host, and that host records ordinary web-server request data such as IP address, user agent and requested URL. That is standard for any website. It does not include the contents of your screenshots.

Where your projects are stored

Projects are stored in your browser's local storage mechanisms: IndexedDB for the image data and localStorage for names, notes, tags and decisions. This storage is specific to the browser and device you are using.

Browser storage is not permanent and can be lost. Clearing your browsing data, using private or incognito mode, browser extensions that clean storage, or the browser itself evicting data under disk pressure will remove your projects. Screencheck cannot recover data that your browser has discarded, because we never held a copy.

For anything you need to keep, use the ZIP backup in the Safety panel. Backups are generated in your browser and downloaded directly to your device; they are not transmitted anywhere.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

Screencheck does not set cookies of its own for tracking purposes.

We may in future display advertising through Google AdSense, and may use analytics, on the informational pages of this site. When enabled, third-party vendors including Google use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Any such scripts are loaded from those third parties' servers.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings or via aboutads.info. Google's own handling of data is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.

Advertising, when enabled, appears only on informational pages. It is not displayed inside the workspace where you are viewing and comparing your own screenshots.

Your rights

Rights such as access, correction, portability and erasure apply to personal data an organisation holds about you. Screencheck holds no screenshot data and no account data, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete on request.

The data held locally in your browser is entirely under your control. You can export it at any time as ZIP or JSON, and remove it by deleting your projects or clearing your browser's site data for this domain.

Responsibility for stored data

Because Screencheck holds no server-side copy of your work, Screencheck is not responsible for the loss of projects stored in browser storage, however that loss occurs. Please export backups of anything important.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

Revisions will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
